The gorgeous Ballina Shire is blessed with a beautiful collection of sparkling inland waterways and Ballina Kayaks are the local experts when it comes to exploring them with a paddle in your hand. Just minutes from Byron Bay, Ballina’s lovely subtropical climate makes it possible to paddle here all year round. Our waterways include the Richmond River, North Creek, Chickiba Creek, Fishery Creek, North Creek Canal, Emigrant Creek and Maguires Creek. Highlights of these wonderful places include shipwrecks, historical structures, and Aboriginal shell middens. You might also meet local wildlife like dolphins, turtles, white-bellied sea-eagles, pelicans, ospreys, kingfishers, and water dragons, as well as migratory birds from the Northern Hemisphere who visit Ballina every summer.
Our extremely popular 3-hour tour includes an introductory lesson, light refreshments, and an unforgettable kayaking experience in super comfortable sit inside kayaks. It is suitable for anyone over 16 years of age who has a reasonable level of fitness. No experience is necessary. We can also tailor trips to meet your specific requirements, including using our fleet of sit-on-top kayaks for kids’ kayaking trips.
All of our tours are run by Scott Rawstorne who is an Australian Canoeing certified kayak instructor, the creator of the Global Paddler project, and the author of The Paddler’s Guide to New South Wales, The Paddler’s Guide to Queensland, The Paddler’s Guide to Victoria and The Paddler’s Guide to South Australia.
